Anthropic Combines Claude Chat and Cowork Into One Interface for Paid Users
Anthropic is bringing Claude's chat and Cowork capabilities together in a single interface. The update also introduces Claude Docs and Claude Slides in beta, allowing users to research, create documents and build presentations within the same conversation.

Key Takeaways
- Strategic developments align with India's long-term infrastructure and technology trajectory.
- Institutional market observers point to sustained corporate expansion and regulatory certainty.
Anthropic is combining Claude's regular chat experience with its Cowork workspace, allowing users to handle simple questions and complex multi-step projects from the same conversation.
The company says Claude will now determine which capabilities a task requires instead of making users decide whether to use Chat, Cowork or Claude Design. The update is designed to keep conversation context, connectors and skills available throughout a task.
The unified experience is rolling out to Pro and Max subscribers over the coming weeks across Claude's web, desktop and mobile apps.
Claude Chat and Cowork work together
Cowork was originally designed as a separate environment for larger projects, while Claude Design focused on visual work. Anthropic said users found it inconvenient to decide which tool to use, particularly when a project needed to move between different environments.
With the new interface, users can begin a task in a normal Claude conversation and allow the assistant to take on larger jobs when required.
Claude can continue working on longer tasks even after the user closes their laptop, according to Anthropic.
Users can also control how Claude handles actions during extended tasks. The default setting requires Claude to request approval before taking an action. Users can instead allow it to continue working and ask for input only when necessary.
Claude Docs and Claude Slides added
Anthropic is also introducing Claude Docs and Claude Slides in beta for paid users.
Users can ask Claude to create a document or presentation directly within a conversation and then continue editing the work without moving to another application.
Documents and presentations can be edited inside Claude, shared through a single link and downloaded in formats including PowerPoint and PDF.
Claude Design is also being integrated into conversations, although its existing standalone experience will continue to be available.
Enterprise administrators will have control over when these capabilities are enabled within their organisations.
One conversation for research, writing and presentations
Anthropic says the unified Claude experience can handle workflows that combine research, writing and presentation creation.
For example, a user could ask Claude to analyse a weekly business report, identify important changes, prepare a written report and then turn the findings into a presentation without starting separate conversations.
Because the work remains within the same context, users do not have to repeatedly provide the information needed for each stage.
Andrew Keller, Senior Economist, described how he uses Claude for research, saying: "I could have Claude pull up [my legal research database], and it would pull all the cases, read them, figure out which other cases I might need, download them, and store them in a folder for my personal review."
Rollout begins with Pro and Max subscribers
The combined Claude experience is being rolled out to Pro and Max subscribers over the coming weeks. It will be available through Claude's web, desktop and mobile applications, with no manual activation required.
Team and Free users are expected to receive the features later. Enterprise customers will receive advance notice before changes are introduced for their organisations.
Users who already use Cowork will retain their existing chats, projects, artifacts, connectors and skills. This means ongoing work can continue through the new unified Claude interface rather than requiring users to start again.
The move represents a broader shift in how Anthropic is positioning Claude, bringing conversational assistance, longer-running tasks, document creation and presentation tools into a single workspace.
